Banned Books Week Events

Posted by isulib on September 27, 2010

Alberta Comer reads the Banned Books Week Proclamation, with the assistance of a few others.

Banned Books Week (September 25th through October 2,  2010) is the 29th annual celebration of the freedom to read. The Library Events area is the venue for several events. Join students from Eled 324 (Emergent Literacy) on Tuesday, September 28 as they read challenged children’s books aloud and engage the audience with a discussion on why the books were challenged. Presentations will be from 9-10:30 and 12:30-1:50; try to attend both sessions as the books will be different. On Thursday, September 30, the Library Events Area will be the venue for “Banned Books Outloud.” Beginning at 9:30 and continuing throughout the day until 3:30, everyone is invited to drop by to participate in an ongoing reading out loud of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Come for 10 minutes or an hour. At 12:30 p.m., people are invited to a brown-bag panel, moderated by Darlene Hantzis, will discuss the implications of the publication of the book. Also, there is a display of banned and challenged books in the 1st floor display cases.
