Constitution Day Featured Speaker: Roger Newman

The ISU commemoration of Constitution Day continues on Tuesday, September 28. At 4:00 p.m., guest speaker, Roger Newman will present, “Civil Liberties, Surveillance, and Terrorism”, beginning at 4 p.m. in the ISU Library’s Events Area. Professor Newman teaches Journalism, the Law, and Society at the Columbia University Journalism School, and is the author, co-author or editor of several books, including   Banned Films: Movies, Censors and the First Amendment (1982);  The Constitution and Its Amendments(1999, 4 volumes). His book Hugo Black: A Biography (1994; sec. edition, 1997), was chosen as an “Outstanding” Rated Title for 1998 by the University Press Books Committee of the Association of American University Presses, won the Scribes Book Award and made Professor Newman a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize. He publishes regularly in journals and magazines and has appeared on NPRPBS and even Entertainment Tonight. [Note: this event replaces the 6pm Pizza and Politics for this week; the next Pizza and Politics will be October 12, 6 p.m., Library Events area; the topic will be “Supreme-ly Important Deliberations”.]
