1913 weather disaster

Posted by isulib on March 24, 2011

Yesterday [March 23] marked the 98th anniversary of the beginning of Terre Haute’s biggest weather disaster – the 1913 tornado, followed by a flood, that killed 21 persons on a path stretching from Prairieton through Terre Haute to near Brazil.   Wabash Valley Visions and Voices has a nice digital collection of photos of the damage.  Also, Archives hosts a rather compelling account of the disaster compiled by an ISU history student. During Spring Break a cash machine that dispenses only bills (no coinage) was installed on the first floor by the south wall.

The coin machine that is current there will be removed. After Friday, March 4, the Circulation Desk will no longer be making change for patrons.

In support of the ISU men’s basketball team who will be appearing in their first NCAA appearance in 10 years, I encourage everyone to wear ISU apparel on Friday. In addition, we will place posters around the library that cheer on the team, and we’ll offer blue cookies at the circ desk to our library users and staff.
