Library Contributes to Reading Buddies

Posted by isulib on May 12, 2011

On May 6 some members of the Library received this mailing from Community Engagement:

READING BUDDIES DEADLINE: United Way is just over a week away from their Reading Buddies deadline!   They need your help in reaching their goal of 1,500 stuffed animals which will be given out to every 1st grade student within the Vigo County School Corp. (and possibly Clay Co.).  The deadline for donating is Friday, May 6th. There is still time to run a drive at your workplace! You can drop off your new 12-14 inch stuffed animal to the United Way office, Tribune-Star or the Vigo Co. School Corp. – Administration Bldg.  They will take clean, slightly used stuffed animals as well. Special Thanks to their sponsors: Tribune-Star, Tabco, Wal-Mart, Frontier Communications, Vigo Co. School Corp, Fox Canteen, Century 21 and Terre Haute Young Leaders.

Well, we couldn’t pass this up and, before we knew it, Dean Alberta Comer declared this to be a library project and an official drop-off box was set up. Staff member Holli Moseman even volunteered to shop for those who did not have time to do so. On May 5, staff member Christi Reinig delivered the animals to the United Way.

Note the article from the May 12 Tribune-Star about the entire project, which garnered 1,500 fluffy creatures:
