Library building: HEAT update

Posted by isulib on February 28, 2012

Facilities staff are working to cool down the temps, but until the damper automation system is fixed we will continue to experience swings from hot to cold and back. The dampers are just a short term fix but, hopefully, a long term solution will be in place within the next year through the performance contracting process.

Library is VERY Hot!

Posted by isulib on February 23, 2012

The Facilities Management Department has been notified of the heating problems in the library.  They’ve been over this afternoon to assess the problem, but nothing can be done until tomorrow.  The library’s ongoing heating control issues are compounded by the unusually warm temperature outside today.    We apologize for the level of discomfort this presents, but hopefully we’ll be back to more tolerable conditions tomorrow.

Update on Open J-Gate and Academic Journals

Posted by isulib on February 22, 2012

As shared by George Stachokas, our Electronic Resources Librarian:

Open J-Gate, the large full-text database of free and Open Access journals, is to be re-launched sometime in the future.  When this occurs, hopefully this year, ISU will add 4,000+ links back to 360 Core and make them available to our users.

See: http://www.openj-gate.com/

Some titles previously made available to ISU users through Open J-Gate are still available directly from other sources, e.g., “Academic Journals.”

108 Academic Journals have been added to 360 Core and these titles will be available to ISU users through the E-Resources homepage starting tomorrow. These titles should also be available to ISU users through Fusion/Fusion Plus in March. To learn more about Academic Journals, please see the following link:

Librarian candidate participating in ISU’s Opportunity Hire program quoted in Tribune Star

Posted by isulib on February 22, 2012

February 21, 2012 Tribune Star:

ISU sessions focus on diversifying faculty

Minority job candidates learning what campus, city would be like as homes

Currently a high school librarian in Indianapolis, Edith Campbell would like to become an academic librarian — potentially at Indiana State University.

She was one of six candidates brought in Monday as part of ISU’s Opportunity Hire program, an effort to diversify the faculty “and bring outstanding minority faculty candidates to campus to learn about what employment might be like here,” said Joshua Powers, ISU’s special assistant to the provost for academic initiatives.
