Schick Lecture Series to highlight work of Thoreau on Thursday

September 19 2012

The Indiana State University Schick Lecture Series on Language, Literature and Lexicography will host Jeffrey S. Cramer on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Cramer will speak about “Living Deliberately: Thinking like Thoureau Today.” The lecture will take place in Root Hall A-264 with a reception following in A-269-270.

As Curator of Collections at the Thoreau Institute at Walden Woods, Cramer oversees “the most complete collection of material related to Thoreau that has ever been assembled,” according to the nonprofit organization’s website. He is the editor of “Walden: A Fully Annotated Edition and I to Myself: An Annotated Selection from the Journal of Henry D. Thoreau,” The Quotable Thoreau” and “The Portable Thoreau.” Cramer has appeared on multiple radio and television programs, and his essays have contributed to the literature of The Massachusetts Review, The Literary Review, and The Christian Science Monitor, among others.

The Schick Lecture Series in Language, Literature and Lexicography began in 1988 and is made possible through a bequest from Joseph S. Schick, professor emeritus of English.
