Fall Read: author Jeanette Walls speaking on October 16; canned food donations

Jeanette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, will be speaking on October 16, 2012 at 7 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium.

In conjunction with the upcoming visit by Jeanette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, students will be building a Can Castle in the Commons on October 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations of canned food items will begin Monday, October 8, and continue through October 15. Collection bins will be located in the Student Recreation Center, HMSU, and Cunningham Memorial Library. Donations may also be sent to 215 Stalker Hall. All donations will benefit the Terre Haute Catholic Charities food bank.

Jeanette Walls’ appearance at 7 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium is in conjunction with the University Speakers Series and the Fall Read program. The Fall Read initiative is also hosting a panel on homelessness at 7 p.m. on October 9th in Holmstedt Hall 103. Participants include Jeff Lorick, director of the Terre Haute Commission on Human Relations; Kelli Fuller, community services coordinator with the Terre Haute Housing Authority; Kathy Houk, former resident of Bethany House; and Rick Stevens, assistant director of student services for the Vigo County School Corporation. A student poster session will take place prior to the panel discussion. Donations of canned food items will also be collected at these events. Please consider supporting this effort.
