Librarian Chosen for ACRL Mentoring Program

Posted by isulib on October 6, 2014

Karen Evans (Reference/Instruction librarian, Public Services Department) has been selected to participate in ALA’s Association of College & Research Libraries’ Instruction Section Mentoring Program.   As a mentor Karen will be matched up with a librarian who is new to instruction or to the ACRL’s Instruction Section so that the neophyte can improve his or her teaching skills and confidence in the classroom.  Mentors for the program are chosen for their experience and passion for teaching.

Karen is one of the library’s most active instructors.  Among her current teaching projects is “Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem.”  The twice weekly, 75 minute University 101 class will consist of equal parts of information literacy and criminal justice.

Karen Evans to present at ALAO in November

Posted by isulib on July 7, 2014

Reference/Instruction Librarian (Public Services) Karen Evans’ paper “Got Your 6: Librarian Support for Student Veterans” has been selected for inclusion in the 40th Annual Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) Conference (“Advocacy, Engagement, Outreach”) at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center on November 14, 2014.  The paper has been selected by ALAO’s Diversity Committee as a sponsored program.

The selection of this paper for presentation at the ALAO conference is only the most recent episode in an extraordinarily productive period of scholarly research for Karen.  In the last nine months or so she has had various articles and book chapters that have either been published  or are in press, given webinars, and has presented – or will soon present – at numerous conferences.    She also holds leadership positions in several professional associations.
