Librarian’s Project Funded via McCarthy Endowment

Posted by isulib on October 24, 2013

Edith Campbell (Reference/Instruction > Public Services) has had a project funded through the Dr. William G. and Susan Gans McCarthy Endowment. The McCarthys’ intent is to increase the literacy of children and/or to reduce poverty anywhere in the world by encouraging and assisting faculty or administrators to innovate.  Edi’s project stems from her participation in the Young Adult Library Association’s Best Fiction for Young Adult selection committee. A year’s worth of reading will help the YALSA have a BFYA award list. Through both a passionate commitment to young adult literacy and innovative practices, the books acquired from participating in this program will be distributed throughout the state of Indiana to enhance public high school libraries.

Public and charter high schools who have librarians in their school library/media center will be able to apply for a mini-grant that will place 40 new books in their library. This proposal is for funding to ship the books to the schools.
